Subscribers, 1883–1907 (selected seasons)
About this dataset
The Philharmonic subscriber database was developed by a team of sociologists co-headed by Dr. Shamus Khan (Columbia University) and Dr. Fabien Accominotti (London School of Economics), with funding from The Andrew W. Mellon Foundation. It contains names, addresses, and seat locations for subscribers dating back to the 19th century. The team examined how seat locations on specific concert dates and venues related to where subscribers lived. More than 500,000 records were transcribed and made available in these files. To protect privacy, post-1953 subscriber names were not made searchable.
The data was released in two ways: the complete database as downloadable CSV files (packaged in the ZIP download below), and a searchable subset of subscribers between 1883 and 1907 with links to the original documents.
Downloads
The ZIP contains the complete subscriber dataset as CSV files. The JSON download and the searchable records on this page cover only the searchable subset.
